The new Vampire Weekend song reminds me of a montage "our love is beginning to blossom" scene in a Bollywood film. I'm not sure that's a good thing, but moving from Africa to India is a ballsy move, no doubt. I know the preppy blonde chick on the album cover agrees.Vampire Weekend - "Horchata" (from Contra)

ReplyDeletethe drone instrument, lone vocal line on "Horchata" and the hand drumming (perhaps a tabla?)... I think there is definitely lots of Indian influences here, especially the big Bollywood spectacle kind. I'm hoping they tone it down for a few tracks. keeping their instrumentation straightforward and easy to follow is what made me love them in the first place.
