
After releasing the methamphetamine-dosed locomotive chug of "Baby Missiles," Philadelphia's War On Drugs have let loose "Come To The City," a slower-paced dance of snapping snares, warbly guitar lines, and humming waves of reverb, feedback, and organ. And is that a saxophone I hear in the intro? I hope so. The second taste off the forthcoming
Slave Ambient LP finds Adam Granduciel walking down a darkened sidewalk in a thoughtful, stream-of-conscious, light-headed state: "I've been drinking up all the sweet tea / I've been rambling / I'm just drifting." While the lyrics lend an air of intimacy here, the production is absolutely grand. If this leak was meant to rev up anticipation for the album's August 16th release date, well, mission accomplished.
