Breaking Bad: Music To Make Meth To

I've spent the last week watching the first and second seasons of the AMC television series Breaking Bad and I'm not particularly surprised at how much I've enjoyed the show—as watching people make, sell and get busted for dealing drugs has long been a favorite pastime (ie. Scarface, The Wire, Blow, Goodfellas, etc.)—but I have been blown away by the show's extraordinarily diverse and sophisticated music selection. Featuring current indie greats (Walkmen, TV On The Radio), 80s favorites (Wang Chung), jazz legends (John Coltrane), obscure reggae gems (The In Crowd) and plenty of soul, funk and dazzling Latin instrumental tracks, the palette here is absurdly broad—and it's all the more rewarding for it.

  1. I agree with the sophisticated taste in music played on the show. I recently discovered Breaking Bad while playing with my Google TV, and I’m glad I did. This show is truly amazing. It all started the other day when I was watching Malcolm in the Middle and decided to play around with my Google TV, that’s when I discovered Bryan Cranston is in Breaking Bad! Being that I am an employee/customer of DISH Network, I got the Logitech Revue with Google TV right when it was released. Now I can’t live without it.

  2. True, a good soundtrack can make or break a show or movie for me. Breaking Bad always did a great job of finding songs where not just the title, but even the lyrics, fit the story they were trying to tell. The series finale was awesome in this regard, finishing on exactly the right song and evoking many more musical memories.
