Toro Y Moi - "Still Sound"

Toro Y Moi's sample-crazed debut Causers of This landed on ET's Best Albums of 2010 list, but with his follow up, Underneath The Pine—due out February 22nd—Chaz Bundick set out on a much different path. Forget the sampling, this is a disco album built on the legs of original and highly funky instrumentation.

Daytrotter: Toro Y Moi - "You Hid"

Toro Y Moi has made the move from the one-man-laptop-and-guitar experience to a full band and man it sounds good. Just peep Chaz Bundick and company's recent session over at the Daytrotter studios where Causers of This standouts like "Low Shoulder" and "You Hid" shine under the loose grooves of a live drum kit and reverberated guitars. Download the full session here.

Toro Y Moi - "Leave Everywhere"

When I first wrote about Toro Y Moi back in May of 2009 there was scarcely a blip written about Chaz Bundick. The only reason I even knew he existed was because of an email he sent with the song "109" attached. It was brilliant lo-fi pop with hooks aplenty. Now, a year and a "chillwave" album later the internet bigwigs are following Chaz's every move. This time, it's a return to that lo-fi rock sound that first won me over.

Introducing Toro Y Moi

From the opening bright and fuzzy chords to the self-harmonizing vocals and layers of distorted and quickly plucked guitar riffs, the song "109" quickly becomes a mesmerizing pop diamond from the low fidelity rough. The song was recorded by South Carolina's Chaz Bundick, lead singer of the rock band The Heist and The Accomplice. "109" though is part of a collection of songs Bundick records under the name Toro Y Moi, a solo project he first started when he was 16 years old. Now a 22-year-old college graduate with time on his hands, Bundick says its time to take the project further. Keep an ear out.
