I was turned on to
Orange Juice earlier this week after becoming infatuated with the track "Blokes On 45" featured on the expert
Fortune Fall mix. The Scottish band—formed in part by Edwyn Collins of
"A Girl Like You" fame—mixed post-punk with disco and funk flourishes. Easily the most striking element of the band's sound is the electric guitar work: aggressive and funky, while remaining crystal clear in tone. The riff in "Blokes On 45" around the 1:30 mark is one hell of a hook— catchier than any subsequent vocal line.
