Mixtape #7: The Name of This Band Is Not Talking Heads

Photobucket

The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads is arguably David Byrne and company's greatest live album, despite the rabid popularity of the Jonathan Demme-directed Stop Making Sense and its visually memorable giant suit donning bandleader. This playlist, named for that record, is dedicated to the music directly related to and descended from the Talking Heads. Some songs are by band members branching out after the breakup (Jerry Harrison, Tom Tom Club, Byrne), some are covers, one is an ode to the band (The Pixies' "Dig For Fire"), one is from Byrne's personally curated compilation of Brazilian music, and others simply match the band's remarkably unique and influential musical aesthetic. Please enjoy.

SIDE A
Roxy Music - "Love Is The Drug"
Pixies - "Dig For Fire"
Munk & James Murphey - "Kick Out The Chairs"
David Bowie - "Sound and Vision"
Jorge Ben - "Ponta de Lança Africano (Umbabarauma)"
Brian Eno & John Cale - "Spinning Away"
Dirty Projectors - "Temecula Sunrise"

SIDE B

Television - "Ain't That Nothin'"
David Byrne & Brian Eno - "Strange Overtones"

  1. "The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads is arguably David Byrne and company's greatest live album" I can't agree with you more.

  2. My apologies, I linked the wrong Eno song. "Spinning Away" is the one I meant to share/sample from the mix. It's fixed now!
