There's something about a clean and succinctly upstroked guitar chord that just oozes cool. From old 50s and 60s soul and rock to more modern uses like in the Fiery Furnaces' "Benton Harbor Blues (Again)," it's a beautiful and simple use of rhythm and negative space.
