The Everywheres - "Frightened Face"

"Frightened Face" by Halifax band The Everywheres is on the surface a laid-back, sun-drenched cut of amiably wondering coastal psychedelia, but upon closer listen, there's something nefarious lurking just beneath that coat of reverb. The methodically pacing guitar lead appears more nervous, eery, and even claustrophobic with each repeated play. "I think I can see the cold calling," warns the narrator, who later reveals, "every ray of sun still hurts our eyes." Now the track might be about a race of Canadian vampires, but my money says it's on the harsh encroaching cold of a mean Nova Scotia winter. Word is The Everywheres are set to release their debut LP later this spring. In the meantime, button up.
