Thin Lizzy - "Whiskey In The Jar" (Peel session)

Phil Lynott is one of the all-time coolest motherfuckers that rock 'n' roll ever laid its eyes on. The afro-donning black Dubliner was a commanding presence as the bassist, singer, and frontman of Thin Lizzy for over a decade with hits like "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back In Town." Perhaps Lynott's greatest feat though was transforming the traditional Irish folk song "Whiskey In The Jar"—originated sometime in the 17th century—into a giant and anthemic rock ballad. Thin Lizzy first released the track as a single in 1972, and later that year, recorded a live cut in London's Langham Hotel with the great John Peel. Dig into the Peel produced cut below, which boasts some seriously enjoyable drum breaks and a fantastically warm, laid back, and raspy Lynott on vocals.
