DeVotchka is that rare band with instrumentals so overwhelmingly compelling and cinematic that they've landed themselves scoring duties on films like
Little Miss Sunshine and
I Love You Phillip Morris. The dynamic vocal capabilities of bandleader and singer Nick Urata, however, are equally remarkable. On the shimmering "100 Other Lovers," Urata does a brilliant David Byrne imitation, recalling the former Talking Heads frontman's kinetic energy and charismatic slurred mumble delivery.
