Floating Action :: Fake Blood

Have you ever searched for an obscure recording maybe a friend of a friend told you about that only exists on bootlegged tapes and in the dark corners of the internet? Like buried treasure, that when finally unearthed again reveals a coat of dust and decay, but nevertheless radiates an inescapable warmth and unadulterated joy. That's how the entirety of Fake Blood—the newest release from Seth Kauffman's Floating Action project—plays: deep crackling grooves, layers of gritty reverberating guitars, and loose vocal takes sung in a hushed falsetto that feel a world away from the crazed rat race of modern life. Fake Blood may lack singles as catchy as 2009 classics "50 Lashes" or "Don't Stop Loving Me Now," but sonically, this is by far Kauffman's richest and most rewarding offering to date. The mixing and production here somehow deliver a focused, dynamic, and detailed clarity—down to every snap of tambourine and strum of guitar—while simultaneously creating an atmosphere that's thick with the character of a bygone place and time. Fake Blood is a coastal road journey down to the empty morning-lit beaches and up through the cool mountain air: Kauffman's analog magnum opus, perfected for the discerning modern ear.

Buy the vinyl from Harvest Recordings.

  3. Stoked to see these guys w/Band of Horses in Orlando on the 15th!! I also just found out that BOH is doing an in-store performance @ Park Ave. CDs at 2:00pm before the show that night. It would be awesome if Floating Action joined in and played a few songs too....I guess we'll see :)

  4. Sweet find....it's like Jonathan Richmond met Kurt Vile and they hung out with the Silver Jews while crafting a better soundtrack to the movie "Drive". Alright, that made no sense, but it's some fine tuneage.
